This weekend past, I had the pleasure of participating in the annual Juried exhibition, Art of Soul!, at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, in Wilberforce, OH. Neighboring two HBCUs, this was a wild trip and a weekend that I doubt I will ever forget.
The event included a panel with the judges that I found very insightful. It was fulfilling to listen the jury speak about their careers, each of them having overlapping concepts about the art world. I resonated most with the ideas of art historian Key Jo Lee. She spoke of her recent work researching the stories of African Americans communicated through the form of photography. I was captivated as she spoke and I am eager to share more, but I will save that for another post.
The exhibition will be ongoing, from September 14th, 2019 – February 29, 2020. You can find more information on the exhibition here. Thank you, NAAMCC and friends, for your support and wonderful energy!
